Opera Club: Wagner’s "Tannhäuser"
Sunday, March 81:00—4:30 PMEdgartown Free Public LibraryEdgartown Free Public Library26 West Tisbury Road, Edgartown, MA, 02539

Directed by Wolfgang Wagner, Richard Wagner’s grandson, this production of Tannhäuser became the highlight of the Bayreuth Festival during the late 1980s. The stark impressionism of the production contrasts with the precise conducting of maestro Giuseppe Sinopoli.
The strong cast includes soprano Cheryl Studer as Elisabeth and tenor Richard Versalle in the title role, both of whom gained international status through their performances. The opera runs three and a half hours, including intermission, and is sung in German with English subtitles. All adults are welcome.
