Opera lovers unite! Join us for a journey back to old Russia with Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin, based on the classic novel in verse by Alexander Pushkin.
Filmed live at the Metropolitan Opera in 2014, the dream cast is led by soprano Anna Netrebko as the naive country girl, Tatiana, with handsome baritone Mariusz Kwiecien as the louche Onegin, tenor Piotr Beczala as his friend, Lenski, and mezzo Oksana Volkava as Olga, Tatiana's sister. The Met Chorus is excellent, as ever. Maestro Valery Gergiev conducts. The production is by Deborah Warner.
The opera is sung in Russian with English subtitles, with a running time of three hours, including intermission. All adults are welcome.
This program is generously funded by the Friends of the Edgartown Free Public Library.
