Opera Club: Rossini's "Le Comte Ory"

Sunday, August 111:00—4:00 PMEdgartown Free Public LibraryEdgartown Free Public Library26 West Tisbury Road, Edgartown, MA, 02539

A delicious, sexy romp, Rossini's final comic opera is not well known, but it should be. The Metropolitan Opera's hit 2011 production by Bartlett Sher twirls an already dizzy plot and casts it with young singers who are now the backbone of the Met's roster. Coloratura soprano Diana Damrau is the countess Adèle, the object of desire of both the page, Isolier (mezzo Joyce DiDonato), and the Count of the title (tenor Juan Diego Flórez), who spends half of the opera disguised as a nun. Maurizio Benini leads the Met Opera Orchestra and Chorus through Rossini's sparkling score. English subtitles. The opera runs 2.5 hours plus intermission. In French with English subtitles. All adults are welcome.
