Filmed live at the Metropolitan Opera House in 2015, Rossini's bel canto drama of love and politics in the Scottish highlands is brought to life by a superb cast and inspired conducting. As Elena, the "lady of the lake" of the title, mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato is sought by three men: the King of Scotland (tenor Juan Diego Florez), highland chieftain Rodrigo (tenor John Osborne), and Malcolm (mezzo Daniela Barcellona, in a trouser role), Elena's true love. Michele Mariotti leads the Met orchestra through Rossini's lush score. Sung in Italian with English subtitles, the opera runs three hours, including intermission.
