The beautiful production of Donizetti's Maria Stuarda from the Metropolitan Opera is a celebration of the art of bel canto. Director David McVicar's intensely dramatic, splendidly sung gem premiered at the Met just a couple of weeks before this 2013 performance was recorded. Maestro Maurizio Benini conducts the Met Orchestra. The piece runs three hours including intermission, and is sung in Italian with English subtitles. All adults are welcome.
