[ONLINE] Gustav Klimt & Vienna’s Golden Age, with Janet Mandel

Tuesday, April 57:00—8:00 PMZoom

Gustav Klimt dominated cultural life in Vienna at the turn of the Twentieth Century, being the bridge between the symbolism of fin-de-siècle Europe and the modernism that captured the imagination of the Continent. Arts educator Janet Mandel will tell the story of his remarkable life while examining his ebullient landscapes, sensual drawings, and ravishing portraits. We will also learn what happened to his many Jewish patrons and the Klimt works they owned during the Nazi era and beyond.

About the presenter: Janet Mandel taught in New Jersey’s public schools for 32 years, the last eighteen of which were at Columbia High School in Maplewood, where she taught English, art history, and World Languages and Cultures. Now retired, Janet presents illustrated talks on a variety of art history topics at adult schools, libraries, museums, senior centers, community centers, and similar venues. Janet also has a series of delightful Mini-art Talks on YouTube.
