[ONLINE] Film Discussion Group: Viva (Ireland & Cuba, 2015)

Monday, June 2811:00 AM—12:00 PMZoom

Until the day comes when we can enjoy films together again on the library’s big screen, we’re hosting a monthly virtual film group. View our movie of the month (free on Kanopy or Hoopla) and we’ll meet to discuss it via Zoom. Bring your impressions and opinions. Virginia Munro will choose the films and facilitate the group.

Viva (Ireland & Cuba, 2015)
Perhaps the only Irish film ever shot in Cuba, director Paddy Breathnach’s drama Viva (the stage name of the lead character) lays on the melodrama when it’s least needed. However, the excellence of its performers (Hector Medina as Jesus, Luis Alberto Garcia as Mama, and Jorge Perugorria as Angel) will keep you absorbed in this emotionally rich story of a young hairdresser who longs to perform in drag. In addition, the brilliant camera work of Cathall Watters makes this trip to the slums of Havana vibrantly beautiful. The film is streaming free on Kanopy and Hoopla with your library card.

The Zoom link for this program will open half an hour before the program's start time, so come in a little early, set up your devices, get comfortable, and turn your mic and video off until you are invited to turn them on again. This program will not be recorded.

Registration for this event has now closed.
